It is not classical outdoor footwear but the jury liked the ecological approach that Tretorn has chosen for the Racket Eco Sneaker. This classic styled lifestyle sneaker is made from recycled fabric that can be recycled again and the outsole compound includes 60 percent of natural rubber. Additionally the eco leather used can be traced back to the farm. Björn Borg would be proud!

PRIMARY INNOVATION FEATURES

Tretorn managed to change a classic sneaker into a unique Eco sneaker without making a notable change for the passing eye. An everyday sneaker but still good for the environment.

INTENDED SPECIFIC END USE

The Racket Eco Sneaker is designed for everyone. Perfect for active people who loves leisure wear but with a twist.

SPECIFIC FEATURES

Tretorn changed the outsole compound to include 60% natural rubber sourced from local farms in Vietnam, making the oil and plastic dependency low in comparison to most footwear outsoles today. They work with TanTec Eco Tannery for a water and chemical reduced Eco Suede traceable back to the farm with full transparency. Tretorn changed the construction of the insock to be build on a compound from recycled rubber, making the construction free from PU and plastics.

SUSTAINABILITY INFORMATION

Tretorn never uses fluorocarbons, phthalates, PVC. They only use chemicals when needed and only in a very restricted and controlled way. Tretorn has developed their own fabric Ocean Shell that is recycled and recyclable. On sneakers they do not have a solution in place for how they can be taken care of as it is today. They are a mix of so many compounds making it hard with present situation. However hopefully they have soon managed to make sneakers in less compounds and then made them easier for recycling or reuse.

Water repellency plays an important role for outdoor garments. Organotex Textile waterproofing is an ecological friendly, PFOC-free and fully biodegradable way of keeping your clothing highly water repellent. The jury also liked that it will perform well without having to apply heat to the treated garment when you let it dry for two days. The products are manufactured in Sweden.

PRIMARY INNOVATION FEATURES

By mimicking the lotus leaf, OrganoTex have designed a waterborne system that builds up a breathable 3D network with micro and macroscopic surface roughness covered by a layer of anchored fatty compounds for good coverage and durability of the treatment on the textile.

INTENDED SPECIFIC END USE

OrganoTex end-consumer product is aimed to re-impregnate or impregnate variations of textile fabrics to become water repellent. The product is workable also for all kinds of laminated or coated fabrics and will not affect the breathability.

SPECIFIC FEATURES

The 3D network technology creates water repellence, maintains the fabric’s breathability and softness compared to film forming technology, such as for example PU and wax-based products. The product is 100% readily biodegradable and classified as non-toxic according to CLP. Water-based emulsion with readily biodegradable fatty hydrocarbons.

SUSTAINABILITY INFORMATION

OrganoTex has used only non-toxic chemistry that are biodegradable and the product is 100% readily biodegradable and classified as non-toxic according to CLP.

The well balanced axe with its long, ergonomic and smooth handle combines low weight of the axe head with big impact. It is a really multipurpose axe made of highest quality materials that will last more than a lifetime when taken care of properly.

PRIMARY INNOVATION FEATURES

Åby Forest Axe is a new axe designed to be able to fulfill various tasks required on an expedition. A beautiful hybrid axe for many types of use, such as felling, carving and splitting. Åby has a straighter edge and grinding, and a good finger notch below the head for increased precision.

INTENDED SPECIFIC END USE

If you store the axe in normal conditions and reshape when dull, the Hultafors Åby Forest Axe will last forever. This is by far the best option for our environment, to make products of highest quality that will last for centuries. The axe is fully recyclable and can be disassembled into steel, wood and leather.

OVERALL WINNER, MOTIVATION FROM THE JURY

There might be other floating knives on the market but none comes close to the performance of the Floating Rope Knife from Swedish manufacturer Morakniv. The jury was impressed of the overall design including a handle made out of cork which is soft and grippy at the same time. Also the serrated blade works well, the rounded tip makes handling a lot more secure. The super light weight makes it not only a great knife for kayaking or boating but also for hiking and backpacking. »The more we tested the Morakniv the more we loved it«, says one jury member.

PRIMARY INNOVATION FEATURES

The Morakniv Floating Rope Knife is a fixed blade knife that, thanks to the designed handle of cork, actually floats in water. The thin serrated blade of stainless steel is specially designed to handle the cutting of rope, fibre and nylon.

INTENDED SPECIFIC END USE

Morakniv developed the Floating Rope Knife for the offshore industry where a floating knife is of high importance. Especially in the fish farm agriculture where knives are used regularly for cutting rope or as a general tool. Of course its features also make this knife a perfect tool for kayakers, people sailing and others spending time on the water, both professionals and sportsmen.

The thin blade of stainless steel has a rounded tip, keeping you and your boat safe from injuries and providing a safe practice when cutting rope or nets out on the water. The Floating Rope Knife has a core and a sheath made of orange polymer making it highly visible and easy to locate.

This softshell jacket for kids convinced the jury with great function. It is not only well made, the pfc-free DWR (durable water repellent finish) is the environmentally friendly version of the classic Teflon treatment and promises long lasting performance. The fabric is also treated to keep mosquitos away. This plant based treatment is hypoallergenic and Ökotex-approved. »We also liked that the design is appealing to the eye and that the price is consumer friendly«, as noted by one jury member.

PRIMARY INNOVATION FEATURES

The Anti-Mosquito Jacket made by Reima is a jacket that effectively repels mosquitoes and protects you from them.

INTENDED SPECIFIC END USE

SPECIFIC FEATURES

The protective jacket has a safe, detachable hood, and it is very comfortable in use, as the material is elastic, water repellent and also breathable. The protection will stay at a very good level for at least 20 washes. It’s treated with a non-toxic mosquito repellent finish.

SUSTAINABILITY INFORMATION

Mosquitoes can infect people with serious illnesses. In a mosquito-rich environment, this jacket used with pants made from the same material will cover up most of the skin, leaving less skin to be covered with mosquito repellent lotion. It is nature-friendly and will not harm the mosquitoes or any other insects. The fabric is treated with a mosquito-repellent finish. The active substance therein is a plant extract called geraniol, which comes from the Palmarosa plant. In the finish, geraniol is skin-friendly and non-toxic, safely protecting kids without dangerous chemicals. The finish is a product of the French company Breyner. It is tested to be hypoallergenic and it is Oeko-Tex® approved for all classes.
